The Siam Society and Heavenly Voice of Classical Voice Department, College of Music, Mahidol University present an enchanting concert featuring cherished Classical love songs by renowned composers including Schubert, Schumann, Mozart, Fanny Mendelsshon, Brahms, Mahler, Faure, Gounod, Chausson, Chaminade and Bizet.
Experience a rich tapestry of emotions—joy, longing, passion, tranquility, and even heartache—explored through exquisite melodies inspired by the great poets of German and French literature. The first half showcases a blend of well-known and lesser-known German and French love songs, culminating in a set of three short duets by Schumann.
The second half highlights two beautiful duets by Fanny Mendelssohn and Schubert, leading to the concert’s centerpiece: Brahms’ ** Neue Liebesliederwalzer **, Op. 65 arranged for solos, quartets, and chamber voices, performed by the Heavenly Voices and the esteemed pianist, Professor Dr. Eri Nakagawa, and our collaborative pianist and head of the program, Professor Rasikamon Siyapong.
The 15 romantic collections were originally written for four solo voices and four hands on the piano between 1869 and 1874. The text of the songs is adapted from folk songs from diverse Europe regions including Turkey, Poland, Latvia, and Sicily. The text for songs No.1 through 14 were translated and compiled by Georg Friedrich Daumer (1800-1875) in his poem series, Polydora. The text for No. 15 the final song, entitled Zum Schluß (In Conclusion), was written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Join us for this timeless voyage through love’s many forms. We look forward to sharing this memorable evening with you!
