Philosophy and Religion, Buddhism, Iconography

It is generally known that Thailand has overwhelmingly been influenced by Sinhalese Buddhism from the 13th century onwards. However, there are some traces of Sri Lankan iconography, especially the gesture of Buddha which is interestingly linkable to Sri Lankan art, even before the 13th century. Two-handed Vitarka gesture and the cross-handed gesture are amongst them.

This lecture aims to introduce some Buddhist interlinkage through the gestures of Buddha and their iconography.
