Art History

Prasats in Southeast Asia represent an architectural form reserved for high-ranking members of society. They incorporate various styles and regional influences from Indian art, eventually forming their own unique characteristics. These include the tiered or layered Vimana structures from South Indian art and the Shikhara spire-like forms, resembling corn cobs, from North Indian art.

This presentation by Associate Professor Chedha Tingsanchali, Ph.D., conducted in Thai, aims to enlighten interested individuals about the diversity of Southeast Asian Prasats under Indian influence. It also serves as an introduction to the book "Shikhara and Vimana Structures in Indian Art and Their Influence on Southeast Asian Art," which is based on research funded by the Silpakorn University Research and Development Institute in 2015.
