Agroecology
The implementation of locally-based agroecology practices can contribute to achieving global food sovereignty. Food sovereignty entails sustainable agricultural practices that encompass the social, environmental, cultural, and behavioral aspects of our lives. The initiative carried out by the Center for Agricultural Education and Training (or Yayasan Sintesa) in Asahan Regency, Indonesia, is a successful example of implementing locally-based agroecology practices. The implementation of locally based agroecology practices aligns with the principles of food sovereignty. It not only ensures food security but also supports sustainable agriculture, local economies, cultural preservation, health, and social justice. By adopting an agroecological approach, we not only mitigate environmental impacts but also move closer to achieving food sovereignty. This project not only contributes to improving soil health and achieving better crop yields but also promotes biodiversity conservation and reduces reliance on harmful chemicals. This talk will identify the factors of the project's success.
