The images of “Subak” that comes to people’s mind are around Bali, paddy fields, and a world heritage recognized by UNESCO during the 36th World Heritage Committee (WHC) at St. Petersburg, Russia. In this talk, Widya will share about Subak from her view drawn upon the experience with Subak farmers and researchers through Subak Field School, the Bali International Field School for Subak (BIFSS), organized by the Indonesian Heritage Trust and its partners. She will explain how Subak encompasses tangible and intangible heritage, namely humans, nature, and the Creator. In the face of challenges, such as natural disasters, and pandemics, Widya will explain how this heritage and the traditional knowledge of Subak can be an outlet for young people to learn about resilience; both in nature and as a society.
