Over a hundred years ago a personal friendship between two monarchs, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and King Chulalongkorn of Siam, laid the foundation for advanced and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations. Since then, mutual interest in learning about each other’s culture and history has steadily grown, and Russia and Thailand have continued to enjoy beneficial relations that the author foresees being only further enhanced and developed in the future. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Russia and Thailand relations, relying on the scholarship of Russian academics specializing in Thai studies and historical documents on Russia-Thai diplomacy to do so.
