Competency, Guideline for Cultural Heritage Management and Cultural Landscapes in Northern Thailand as to Be Nominated for World Heritage List

This study is a part of “the Study and Analysis of Value, Competency, and Guidelines to Nominate Cultural Heritage Places as World Heritage”, focusing on places which are considered cultural heritage in Northern Thailand and possess outstanding universal value. Management is also considered, then framework for management plan is prepared. This study proposes sites whose competency can be the Serial Nomination World Heritage as they all are in Upper Northern Thailand and share some aspects in common. The research project “Study and Analysis of Value, Competency, and Guidelines for Nomination of Cultural Heritage Sites as World Heritage” categorizes subtopics into themes due to related contexts as follows:
1. Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites in Historic Towns of Lanna Culture;
2. Sacred Monasteries and Cultural Routes in Lanna Culture;
3. Sacred Mountains of Lanna Culture;
4. Cultural Landscape and Living Heritage Town of Lampang; and
5. Cultural Landscape of Mae Hong Son Valley.
The purposes of the study are to figure out the competency of 10 sites of cultural heritage so as to prepare the strategic plan and nominate them on tentative list and to prepare database for documentation. The proposal is prepared and the coming and possible impacts are studied. In addition, the study is expected to stimulate understanding and realization in conservation and sustainable development of cultural heritage places, promotion of tourism in both natural and cultural aspects, as well as creation of creative economic aspects and added value from social and cultural components as budget.
