“Past-Present-Future” Directions of Conservation of the Historical Park in Thailand

This paper presents the directions of conservation of the cultural heritage, historic park in Thailand. There are four sections in the article. The first section is the definitions of ‘conservation’ which will derive from relevant laws and the charters. The second section presents the overall Western and Thai concepts of conservation of cultural heritage applied in the past. It summarises the main arguments and the past important events. The third section demonstrates the past and current situations of the historical parks in Thailand. This insight investigation will be conducted through three case studies which are the Sukhothai Historical Park, the Ayutthaya Historical Park and the Phimai Historical Park. The study focuses on the implementation of conservation policies in different areas. Each case noticeably has a distinguished physical area and specific problems of the policy implementation.
