The process for nominating a site to be placed on the World Heritage List has become more complex due to changes in definitions and criteria. This means that there will be only qualified sites selected by a committee. However, the value of each site has to be evaluated and compared with other sites on the World Heritage List or the Tentative List.
This study reviews the documents submitted in nominating sites to the World Heritage Committee for consideration and checks the qualities according to World Heritage criteria in terms of possessing outstanding universal value, in order to be placed on the CLMV states (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) and Thailand’s list of World Heritage.
Twenty-six World Cultural Heritage sites and fourteen sites on the Tentative List were selected for the study. Lessons learned from reviewing the documents will be used to set strategies according to the definitions of Outstanding Universal Value, as well as to set guidelines for Thailand in nominating a site to be included as a World Heritage.
