Understanding of meaning function and recognition in place is essential for developing conceptual framework regarding value assessment in place. This is especially when activities given by meaning of place is impelling physical setting to change in differential ways. This paper is therefore to understand identity function in Use transformation process, a relation of associative meaning conducting between human and physical environment, in which factors contributing to actions dominated by identity function in each stage are expressed. In a Literature review, identity process in the field of psychology, social and architecture are discussed in order to explicate a relation of identity and behavioral expressions through the ethics of architectural conservation. The review found that place-identity in the Use transformation process of old buildings in the old town is sensitively for alteration and is usually damaged from new development. Any application to actions and activities should be considered as a socio-cultural process where is linking to congruence of place among process and town composition e.g. physical environment, activity and use, custom and way of living.
