The ISO 15489 Information and documentation-Records management is the prominent standard of the efficient management of an organization’s records. Archival practitioners--as memory recorders, decision supporters of the executive board in terms of the policy-making and the work direction, and as facilitators of learning a lesson from the past –need to discern the application of ISO 15489 in archival works. However, this standard does not fit into all archives, for example community archives. In the archival appraisal aspect, some archival documents may contain unreliable content, yet they are preserved for the interpretation alongside other records. In the archival access aspect, ISO 15489 may not affect the procedure of document creation and additionally emphasizes the cost of access.Archivists then should adhere to their role prior to the rigid compliance with ISO 15489.
