We invite you to join us in The Siam Society Literary Lounge titled \u201cJourney of Chocolate: from Spanish Empire to the Kingdom of Ayutthaya\u201d, an academic talk given by Dr. Piemsak Hongjamrassilp about the journey of chocolate in the Spanish Empire from 16th<\/sup> to 18th<\/sup> centuries and the transmission of chocolate consumption culture from the Spanish Americas to the Kingdom of Ayutthaya via the Philippines. This academic talk aims to emphasize the role of the Spanish Empire in the socio-cultural changes of Ayutthaya and to reflect the latter\u00b4s role as entrep\u00f4t <\/em>with links to political entities in Asia-Pacific regions, such as the Philippines and Latin America,\u00a0 through the use of diaries and historical documents from the Archivo General de Indias (AGI), Spain, and other sources.<\/p>\n
