A natural history museum is a place that tells the story of biodiversity and the environment throughout history. From its origins in the age of exploration and colonialism to its current role as a learning hub, the museum not only displays a wide array of natural history specimens but also serves to preserve, reference, and continually generate new knowledge. Behind the scenes, the museum operates complex and unique systems for managing natural history specimens, ranging from long-term preservation, species identification, data recording, and sourcing, all of which must consider ethical standards in collection and usage. It also engages in in-depth scientific research aimed at solving contemporary issues. The Siam Society Literary Lounge this month, with Dr Chawatat Thanoosing, invites everyone to share perspectives on the behind-the-scenes world of natural history museums, an aspect many people may have never known before.<\/p>\n
