After the end of World War II, the Thai government had a mission to take care of foreign prisoners of war (POWs) in Thailand until they could be repatriated. This situation was significant for maintaining the country\u2019s sovereignty, as the Allies used it as one of the conditions for signing the peace treaty. However, the story of POWs in Thailand was not limited to Western prisoners alone. There were also Japanese and Korean soldiers who became POWs following Japan\u2019s defeat, whom the Thai government was also responsible for looking after until their repatriation.<\/p>\n

The Siam Society Literary Lounge this month invites everyone to explore a different perspective on the lives of POWs with Asst. Prof. Thep Boontanondha, a lecturer at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University, and a historian with a special interest in modern military and war studies.<\/p>\n
