Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds universal significance as a center of peace, spirituality, and human values. The presentation focuses on the promotion, management, and conservation of Lumbini and the greater Lumbini area. It highlights ongoing efforts to balance archaeological research, pilgrimage, and tourism with the safeguarding of the site\u2019s outstanding universal value.<\/p>\n

The key themes include promotion<\/strong>, through showcasing Lumbini\u2019s cultural, spiritual, and historical heritage at both national and international levels via cultural diplomacy and sustainable tourism initiatives; management<\/strong>, by strengthening institutional frameworks, stakeholder coordination, community participation, and collaboration with partners; and conservation<\/strong>, through the implementation of scientific research, heritage preservation, landscape protection, and sustainable development measures to safeguard monuments and archaeological remains. The presentation further emphasizes the role of Buddhist communities, Buddhist monasteries, international partners, and visitors in preserving the sanctity of Lumbini while promoting it as a global symbol of peace and compassion.<\/p>\n

Gyanin Rai <\/strong>is a Senior Director at the Lumbini Development Trust, Government of Nepal and a current President of ICOMOS Nepal. He holds an MBA in Religious Tourism and MA in History, Culture and Archaeology from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. The Trust is responsible for managing, preserving, promoting and restoring the Lumbini, the Sacred Birthplace of Lord Buddha, and the Greater Lumbini Area. He has been working for the Trust for the past 22 years and the current responsibilities is Head of the Administration, Management and World Heritage Unit. He has been involved in building international relations to engage the global community in achieving the Trust\u2019s goals. He has contributed to various international projects in Lumbini, including the UNESCO-Japanese Fund in Trust project, the KOICA – Lumbini World Peace City, preparation of the Integrated Management Framework for Lumbini, the ADB – South Asia Tourism Infrastructure Development Project. He has involved as convener for the preparation of the nomination dossier for \u2018Tilaurakot- Kapilavastu, World Heritage Nomination Process. Mr. Rai contributed to the UNESCO publication \u2018The Sacred Garden of Lumbini, Concept and text for the Photo book-Lumbini, Nepal, coordinated to prepare National Documents on \u2018Buddhist Circuits of Nepal. He has published several articles on Lumbini, tourism and heritage in national and international journals, as well as energetically working to preserve culture and heritage in the Lumbini Buddhist region, communities\u2019 socio-economic upliftment, and global peace campaign.\u00a0 Before joining the Trust, he worked for the Nepal Tourism Board. His main interest is to properly conserve, manage and promote the Buddhist Heritages in the Greater Lumbini Area. As a President of ICOMOS Nepal he has played a decisive role in professionalizing the organization, expanding its partnerships, and elevating Nepal\u2019s conservation efforts onto the international stage.<\/p>\n
