The Siam Society Literary Lounge this month invites you to join a discussion with Dr Tej Bunnag, who will discuss King Mongkut\u2019s 1867 royal letter, informally referred to this document by Dr Tej as the \u201cCrocodile and Whale Royal Letter\u201d, sent to Siam\u2019s ambassador negotiating with France. The letter\u2019s vivid metaphors reflect Siam\u2019s delicate diplomatic position amid pressure from major powers. Dr Tej will explore the letter\u2019s historical significance and share his efforts to locate the original manuscript.<\/p>\n
