This paper summarises recent archaeological research in the southern Thailand and the northern part of the Malay Peninsula where the author has been investigating the ports and entrepôts significant for the early trade between Western Asia, India, Southeast Asia, and China. Particular attention is given to the important site of Yarang in Patani Province which has been neglected until recently.
