Cultural Exchanges between China and Thailand, 1840-1949
China has a long cultural exchange relationship with Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand. The topic of this lecture will mainly discuss the cultural exchanges between China and Thailand over a century, from the outbreak of the First Opium War in 1840 to the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Both China and Thailand have undergone earth-shaking and major changes during this historical period. The exchanges between the two countries have also changed from official to non-governmental, especially the Chinese and overseas Chinese who have immigrated to Thailand. On the basis of an overview of the Sino-Thai cultural exchanges during this period, this lecture focuses on its characteristics and influences, hoping to give the audience some reference.
