Dvaravati Si Thep: In Search of Thailand’s Earliest Civilization
Long before Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, an earlier civilization flourished in central Thailand – Dvaravati. For over a century, scholars have sought its true location. Drawing on art history, archaeology, history, and geography and illuminated through data visualization, this book compares five candidate sites to unravel the mystery.
Among the sites, Si Thep, once half-buried and long dismissed as a peripheral curiosity, emerges as the most compelling contender for the lost realm of Dvaravati.
About the speaker
Dr. Piriya Krairiksh, Thailand’s foremost art historian, provides deep insights into the religious traditions practiced at Si Thep and related sites, forming the foundation for identifying Si Thep as Dvaravati’s spiritual and cultural center.
Dr. Kamontip Snidvongs extends the inquiry across disciplines, integrating comparative analysis and visualization to reinforce the conclusion: Si Thep stands as the most credible location of the ancient Dvaravati civilization.
