The Hidden Gems in Samut Songkhram Province

Samut Songkhram is located on the seashore at Mae Klong Bay, 74 kilometres southwest of Bangkok. It occupies an area of about 416 square kilometres and is administratively divided into three districts: Muang District, Amphawa District, and Bang Khonthi District. Samut Songkhram is a low-lying land crisscrossed by waterways. The fertile land rich in nutrients for plants makes the area perfect for cultivating fruits. With its historic riverbank settlements and networks of canals, fruit plantations, unique arts and crafts, picturesque seaside, and delicious cuisine, Samut Songkhram provides a quick rural retreat and promises unique local experiences.

The Siam Society is organising a leisurely one-day trip to visit several sites of interest in the orchard areas along the canals and rivers of Samut Songkhram Province. This rich river area of central Thailand is lush and beautiful. You will experience the Thai rural life and the charm of the countryside at Bang Nokkwaek. Due to the flat topography and abundant water sources, the surrounding area is well-suited for fruit orchards, which are pleasant, shady, and very well-kept. There are coconut palms, banana, papaya, mango, betel nut trees and an amazing variety of trees and plants. Participants will also have the chance to walk through some interesting orchards and visit some of the most interesting old temples, mural paintings, and a traditional wooden Thai house built on stilts on the banks of the rivers and canals. A picnic lunch at a lovely resort beside the canal together with the boat trips on the river and canals will also be included.
