An Evening of Indonesian Music and Dance

On Wednesday, 24 May 2023, The Siam Society Under Royal Patronage, in collaboration with the Embassy of Indonesia in Bangkok, organised ‘An Evening of Indonesian Music and Dance.’ This performance was welcomed by Mrs Bilaibhan Sampatisiri, the President of the Siam Society.

Many traditional dances of Indonesia were performed. There were dances such as Batoh Jaroe Dance, Merak Dances (Peacock Bird Dances), Balinese Pendet Dance, and Klana Topeng Sewandana Dance. The music performed was Angklung Music and Gamelan Music. Indonesians and Thais formed a beautiful connection through the Klana Sewandana Dance because similar stories were told through the performance, known to Thais as Inao and to Indonesians as Panji. Toward the end of the performance, audiences received an Angklung instrument which enabled them to engage with the performance and harmonise with the music.

The Siam Society is honoured to strengthen the established connections and everlasting friendship between Indonesia and Thailand. We look forward to working with the Embassy of Indonesia in order to promote and exchange knowledge and culture between our two countries on the next possible occasion.
