ห้องสมุดสยามสมาคมฯ มีกำหนดจัดกิจกรรม The Siam Society Literary Lounge เรื่อง “หลังบ้านพิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติวิทยา” ในวันเสาร์ที่ 12 กรกฎาคม 2568 เวลา 14.00 – 16.00 น.

พิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติวิทยาเป็นสถานที่ที่บอกเล่าเรื่องราวของความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพและสิ่งแวดล้อมผ่านกาลเวลา จากจุดกำเนิดในยุคแห่งการสำรวจและล่าอาณานิคม สู่บทบาทในปัจจุบันในฐานะแหล่งเรียนรู้ที่ไม่เพียงแต่จัดแสดงตัวอย่างทางธรรมชาติวิทยาที่หลากหลาย แต่ยังเพื่อเก็บรักษา อ้างอิง และสร้างองค์ความรู้ใหม่อย่างต่อเนื่อง เบื้องหลังการทำงานของพิพิธภัณฑ์ยังเต็มไปด้วยระบบจัดการตัวอย่างทางธรรมชาติวิทยาที่ซับซ้อนและเป็นเอกลักษณ์ ตั้งแต่การรักษาสภาพตัวอย่างเพื่อเก็บในระยะยาว การระบุชนิด การบันทึกข้อมูล การสืบค้นแหล่งที่มา ที่ต้องคำนึงถึงจรรยาบรรณในการจัดเก็บและการใช้ประโยชน์ ตลอดจนการวิจัยทางวิทยาศาสตร์เชิงลึกเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาในปัจจุบัน เสวนานี้จะชวนทุกท่านมาร่วมแลกเปลี่ยนมุมมองเกี่ยวกับโลกหลังบ้านของพิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติวิทยาที่หลายคนอาจไม่เคยรู้มาก่อน

A natural history museum is a place that tells the story of biodiversity and the environment throughout history. From its origins in the age of exploration and colonialism to its current role as a learning hub, the museum not only displays a wide array of natural history specimens but also serves to preserve, reference, and continually generate new knowledge. Behind the scenes, the museum operates complex and unique systems for managing natural history specimens, ranging from long-term preservation, species identification, data recording, and sourcing, all of which must consider ethical standards in collection and usage. It also engages in in-depth scientific research aimed at solving contemporary issues. The Siam Society Literary Lounge this month, with Dr Chawatat Thanoosing, invites everyone to share perspectives on the behind-the-scenes world of natural history museums, an aspect many people may have never known before.
