Visit from Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy- IMW

On Tuesday, 12 April 2022, Ms Kanitha Kasina-Ubol, Managing Director of The Siam Society, welcomed Mr Henrik Beermann and Dr Ralf Kilian from Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW (Fraunhofer IMW) at The Siam Society.
This visit marks the Society’s continuing interest as an associated partner of Fraunhofer IMW, which began in June 2020 under the programme “Carrying heritage building as part of urban regions into a modern and energy efficient society” (CHARMS).
The primary objective of CHARMS is to improve the domestic well-being of inhabitants residing in wooden residential buildings, while preserving its architectural heritage and cultural identity through integration of technical and social innovations. This is done through the development of various retrofitting strategies, leading to an energy efficient thermal comfort improvement, while retaining the building’s historical value. The project also calls for close involvement of local stakeholders throughout the development process to ensure a successful implementation with a sustainable outcome.
Although the pandemic placed significant impact on the works and progress, we strongly anticipate that the project will be able to move forward within the coming months.
