On Tuesday, 16 August 2022, The Siam Society, in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok, organised a screening of the film “ME AND THE MAGIC DOOR – discovering Italian Architecture in Bangkok”, followed by a panel discussion featuring Madame Francesca Andreini, Mr Marco Gatti, Professor Neungreudee Lohapon and Professor Paolo Piazzardi.

This film is a non-profit cultural project produced by Embassy of Italy in Bangkok, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, with an aim of promoting cultural collaboration between Italy and Thailand.

The film takes its audience on a journey through some of Bangkok’s most remarkable landmarks that were constructed during the era of King Chulalongkorn and King Vajiravudh, where their Majesties entrusted groups of Italian architectural experts to carry out a number of major construction projects in Bangkok. Today, these works of impeccable craftsmanship can be found throughout the city’s most iconic landmarks, such as the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall and the Government House.

We are honoured to be granted this wonderful opportunity to work with our colleagues at the Embassy of Italy in bridging the exchange of knowledge of culture between our two countries.
