The Siam Society by Siamese Heritage Trust, in association with the Faculty of Law, Chiang Mai University and the Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre, conducted a workshop titled “Chiang Mai Heritage: Call to Action” at the Chiang Mai University Academic Service Centre (Uniserv).

The workshop focused on three main topics:

  • Khuang Luang Wiang Kaew – a historical site in the center of the old town, a symbol of the local community’s efforts in preserving history and heritage for future generations
  • Developing abandoned temples and public land in the old town in order to preserve the historical value and heighten living standards of local communities
  • Preserving traditional wooden houses – an emblem of local traditional architectural methods and the spirit of the community – for future generations. The San Pa Tong community was used as a case study

Attendees included local community leaders, academics, legal experts, as well as representatives of government agencies. The primary outcome of analyzing the problems, obstacles, stakeholders and motives at hand were collective step-by-step solutions specifically tailored for each particular circumstance.
