Lorenzo Galanti, Francesca Andreini, Marco Gatti,Neungreudee Lohapon and Paolo Piazzardi
In 1868, the Kingdom of Siam established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Italy following the country’s unification. At the same time, admiration and passion for Italian arts and culture led King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) to entrust many Italian architectural experts and artists to carry out several major construction projects in Bangkok during the late 19th century and early 20th century. These works of craftsmanship can be found in some of the most iconic places in Bangkok today, such as the Government House, Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall and Baan Phitsanulok.
The Siam Society Under Royal Patronage, in collaboration with The Embassy of Italy in Bangkok, will be organising a screening of the 70-minutes documentary, “ME AND THE MAGIC DOOR: discovering Italian Architecture in Bangkok”. A non-profit cultural project initiated by The Embassy of Italy in Bangkok, this documentary aims to showcase the best of Italian cultural legacy in Thailand through the works of Italian architects, artists, and designers. This documentary is not only an impeccable illustration of the longstanding relations between Thailand and Italy, but also a symbolic representation of knowledge and collaboration in the area of arts and culture between the two countries.
A panel discussion featuring Ambassador Lorenzo Galanti, Madame Francesca Andreini, Mr Marco Gatti, Professor Neungreudee Lohapon and Professor Paolo Piazzardi will take place prior to the commencement of the screening.
