Sukhothai Art Without Inscription No. 1
In his lecture, given on 16 August 1988, at The Siam Society, Dr Piriya Krairiksh reassessed the dating of Inscription No. 1. Subsequently, scholars from such diverse fields as history, archaeology, epigraphy, and linguistics, drew together to debate Piriya’s proposition. Almost all of them put an end to the debate by maintaining the status, authenticity, and validity, of the inscription.
Steadfast in his original argument, Dr Piriya has continued his decades-long quest for the history of Sukhothai art. After thirty-six years of his seminal lecture, he will be sharing insights into his latest studies of Sukhothai art.
