Heritage Matters: Historic Preservation Needs You and Me

“To encourage such action, the Siam Society has launched Heritage Alert, an online channel where anyone can report conservation problems. Our staff and member volunteers follow up by contacting authorities and publicising cases. Though we have no official power, we act as a catalyst and advocate.”

For this month’s Heritage Matters, we highlight the urgent call for citizens, communities, businesses, and the state to work together in protecting Thailand’s cultural heritage. As one of the ongoing initiatives, Ms Kanitha Kasina-Ubol, Managing Director of The Siam Society, cites the example of the Society’s Heritage Alert function as a tool for community-led reporting of tangible and intangible heritage at risk, building public appreciation of heritage and to galvanise joint action.
