A Weekend to Visit Hidden Museums, Relics of Ancient Cities, Ruins of Old Temples, and Many Sites of Interest in the Central Region of Thailand
The Central Region, consisting of 22 provinces, is a land of civilisation originating from the prehistoric era which had been developing continuously till the Ayutthaya and Bangkok periods. The region is the country’s most fertile land as well as the most densely populated region. In addition, the central region also consists of many old human settlements, ancient cities, historical sites, and little-known museums. The two great rivers of the north, the Ping and the Nan, join at Nakhon Sawan in the central plains to form the Chao Phraya River, Thailand’s most important waterway. The broad streams flowing into the Chao Phraya are crisscrossed by a network of canals. Due to the ease of communication and easy access to the Gulf of Siam, this area has been a Thai power base for the last 600 years, culminating in the great cities of Ayutthaya and Bangkok.
Under the leadership of Khun Euayporn Kerdchouay, Senior Consultant, The Siam Society will organise a weekend trip to visit some of the little-known museums, relics of ancient cities, old temple ruins, moats and city walls, and many sites of interest in 3 provinces of the Central Region: Singburi, Chai Nat, and Nakhon Sawan, from Saturday 21 to Sunday 22 September 2019. The trip will consist of a visit to beautiful stucco reliefs of Wat Lai, Chainat Muni National Museum, Inburi National Museum, ruins and the museum of the ancient city of Muang Chansen, the old city of Muang Wesali, the ruins and museum of Ban Khok Mai Den, and the old city of Ban Ku Muang in Inburi.
The group will depart The Siam Society by bus on Saturday 21 September at 7.30am and is expected to return to The Siam Society on Sunday 22 September at 10pm. Members will spend the Saturday night at a hotel in Nakhon Sawan Province.
