Where Mountains Meet the Stars: A Stargazing Trip to Phitsanulok Province

Phitsanulok province is a quiet gem defined by tranquil national parks, expansive rural landscapes, and a rich historical legacy. Its unhurried rhythm and open horizons invite visitors to engage deeply with the landscape, while the low levels of light pollution make it an exceptional setting for observing the night sky. Led by Mr Visanu Euarchukiati, Council Member of The Siam Society, Chairperson of the Siamese Heritage Trust and independent educator of astronomy, this excursion offers guided insight into celestial phenomena while encouraging an appreciation of the night sky as an integral part of the surrounding natural environment.

Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, Nakhon Thai District

Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park is renowned for its dramatic terrain shaped by volcanic activity, including spectacular rock formations such as Lan Hin Taek (a cracked rock plateau) and Lan Hin Pum. Visitors can also explore pine forests and historical sites linked to the area’s role as a former base of the Communist Party of Thailand. The park’s combination of natural beauty, geological formations, and political history makes it one of Thailand’s most distinctive national parks.

Noen Maprang District & Stargazing

Noen Maprang is beloved for its limestone karst mountains, peaceful rural atmosphere, and picturesque villages. The area is particularly stunning at dusk and nightfall, when the open sky and minimal light pollution create ideal conditions for stargazing. Visitors can enjoy observing the night sky from 19:00 – 21:00, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and tranquil countryside.
